Fabric 101
- Mar 28, 2026 01:30 pm

As quilters we develop a love of the fabric we work with – we may enjoy the feel of it (called ‘petting’), hate to cut it up, and build our stash, but do we really know it in the most down-to-earth way. This class will teach you how to really understand the fabric and how it can affect the finished item – our beloved quilts. In this class you will learn: the differences between cotton fabrics how to get fabric "on-grain" when to use the three 'grains' for the best results color value and placement; fabric prints – directional prints, feature fabrics taking care of your fabrics and so much more. You will do a couple of fun 'games' using fabric and learn how to use value finders. All this will help you in choosing fabrics for future projects and how to have a good balance in your quilts. If you have any fabric you are having problems with (can’t find fabrics to 'go’ with it, not sure how to use it in a quilt, etc) bring it to class. The only things you need to bring to this class are your sense of humor and your love of fabric. However, if you happen to have a Ruby Beholder or Value Finders, bring them.
